Elson & Company was founded in 1997 in San Francisco by Diane Elson Bankoff. It was created with the vision of fusing the finest quality hand-knotted Tibetan carpets with the endless possibilities of sophisticated design. Each design is an individual work of art. Our contributing designers include Oscar de la Renta, Lulu de Kwiatkowski, Kathryn M. Ireland, Fabien Baron, Hable Construction, Ferrick- Mason, Rex Ray, Carleton Varney, and founder Diane Elson Bankoff, among others who have created individual designs for a collection. Our Fashion Underfoot and Architects’ Collections evolved from our deep interest in collaborating with some of the most talented individuals in their field to benefit charitable organizations that are especially meaningful to us. These collections continue to contribute to the CFDA’s Fashion Targets Breast Cancer Initative, the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund and Tibet House.

Elson & Company offers hand-made Tibetan pile carpets and hand-woven flat- weave dhurries made in India. Our Tibetan carpets are made by hand in Kathmandu from 100% Himalayan wool and are 100 knots per square inch. The weavers with whom we work in Kathmandu are masters of the traditional weaving techniques and transform the finest high-altitude Himalayan wool into gorgeous, colorful, and long-lasting carpets. They work with pure Tibetan Highland sheep’s wool, which is characteristically flexible, strong, and lustrous. It is the finest wool available. Our hand-made Indian dhurries are flat-weaves made from New Zealand and Indian wool and cotton.

All of our carpets are made-to-order and can be custom designed by pattern, size, color, and scale. Our showrooms carry an assortment of samples and inventory. Production lead-times range from 10-16 weeks, depending on the size and complexity of design. Due to the handmade nature of our carpets, color and size may vary slightly and there is an upcharge for any custom coloring outside our collection of wool. Strike-off samples may be ordered to confirm color and design selections.
